A working year here is 52 weeks of 5 days and 8 hours a day. Time off and unbilled hours mean a freelancer needs a higher rate to reach the same year.

How the math works

Your yearly income is your average daily income times the days in a year. At $157 a day that is $157 × 365 = $57,305. If you only count the days you work, multiply by 260 instead.

For a goal, divide it by your daily pace. $100,000 at $157 a day takes about 637 days — roughly a year and nine months.

Why a daily number helps

A yearly target feels far away. A daily one is something you can check tonight. When income is irregular, your average per day over the last 30 days is the steadiest signal you have.

MoneyWorks Lite shows that average on your home screen, so the same math runs on your real numbers.

Common questions

How much is $100,000 a year per day?

About $274 a day if you count every day of the year, or about $385 per working day if you count 260 working days.

Should I divide by 365 or by working days?

Use 365 to compare against what you actually earned over time — that is how an average per day works in most income trackers. Use working days when you plan your rate, because that is how many days you can really bill.

How long will it take to reach my income goal?

Divide the goal by your average daily income. Switch the calculator to Goal to time, set both numbers, and it shows the time and the date you would get there at that pace.

Is this the same as savings?

No. The calculator counts income earned, not money saved. To plan savings, use the part of your income you actually put aside as the daily number.
